keep looking for where your light pours in

I can still remember sitting at 2012 WPPI listening to Lindsey Adler talk about how she uses random objects in front of her camera to create fun effects and then having my name drawn to win her little box of random things.

I was OBSESSED with all of those trinkets and still have some of them to this day.
But little did I know, those little items would lend a hand to being a beta-tester for the Omni System with Lensbaby.

Which leads me to the newest Omni Rainbow Expansion Pack.

This pack contains three NEW glass crystals, five color filters (with my new FAVORITE color), three rainbow filters, & three quilted prismatic filters (which I already use the most) but now come in larger form.

Let's go through each new addition and what type of effect they provide.

Linear Rainbow Filter

I have found this filter to be my favorite of the new Rainbows. It's not too overwhelming and honestly, the easiest to use.  It grabs the light source and creates a beautiful rainbow line across the photo as shown below.

Starburst Rainbow Filter

This filter creates the most radiant effect stemming from a single light source. The burst of color pulls you in to the focus of the subject and leads your eye right to the source of light.

Swirl Rainbow Filter

I absolutely love the subtle effects the Omni's can provide, but this one is straight in your face RAINBOW. I personally found this one the hardest to use because it is very much in your face with the effect. I found that finding a way to hide part of the effect worked best for my shots and I love the outcome of the half rainbow it provided.

Quilted Iridescent Filters

When I received this new pack, my little lens-flare heart absolutely did a happy dance when I saw we were getting larger quilted filters. I have talked about these being some of my favorites that Lensbaby has come out with, and once again, they didn't disappoint.

I'm just love how these quilted filters have an uncertainty of what the light will provide when shooting with them. You'll never get the same shot twice and being able to keep the light leaks in-camera is just the cherry on top.

Translucent Color Filters

I didn't shoot this session with all of the different colors because these are pretty self-explanatory, but But... BUT!

The NEW ORANGE filter is PERFECTION.

It's the perfect shade to add that vintage film look and/or sunset coloring.
I'll include a with and without filter photo below.

Scepter Wand

This symmetrical little wand helps create symmetry in your faceted light. I found when shooting with this wand, the light splits evenly around the source and creates a burst of saturated color.

Repeater Wand

The only way I can explain the way this wand works is exactly as the name says. It reminds me of those optical illusions posters from the 90s that if you stare at and cross your eyes then pull back it creates a shape in the print.

Tell me I'm wrong. ;)

Bat Wand

The scallops in this wand didn't disappoint. The bursts of light it was able to pull in and mirror the subject simultaneously is such a wonderful addition to the Omni System.

I will also be referring to this as the Bat Signal. I know legally that's not allowed, but when Lensbaby calls, we will be there to create. ;)

Overall, this is probably my favorite expansion pack Lensbaby has released. It's the perfect mix of color, crystals, and being able to create wonderful photos with effects in-camera.
